DockATot Hospital Initiative

Soothing Babies When They Need It Most

For parents going through the stresses of hospital care for their little ones, our mission is to provide the peace of mind that their babies are being soothed and comforted even when they’re not able to hold them. It’s something new parents rarely expect and never want to think about, but every year 10 to 15 percent of newborns in the United States (about half a million) end up in the NICU.  Additionally, thousands of babies are hospitalized each year.

Our Commitment to Babies, Wherever They Are

We’re extremely proud to be partnering with hospitals globally to help make the stays easier for babies, as well as their parents and healthcare providers. By donating the DockATot Deluxe+ for use in the newborn units of hospitals, our goal is for babies to feel more secure and soothed during their treatments, scans and examinations under supervised care.

My vision when creating DockATot was to focus on the well-being and happiness of babies. When my first son was born, I was inspired to create something new in the baby and children's industry. I searched unsuccessfully for something comfy for my baby and at the same time versatile and convenient.

– Lisa Furuland Kotsianis, DockATot founder

For this meaningful partnership, we developed our dock covers with the same soothing fabrics we are known for, but modified to be compatible with MRI and CT scanners. Using our docks with these special covers helps babies relax during these oftentimes unsettling scans. DockATot is currently in use at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Boston Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts; and the Waisman Center in Madison, Wisconsin. This is just the beginning.

Why DockATot for Hospitals?

DockATot was invented to recreate the comfort and security of the womb. This familiar feeling helps little ones feel more at home. Our Deluxe+ dock offers a flexible, safe and comfortable environment for newborns and babies during examinations, treatments and MRI and CT scans.

I have used DockATot in infants for the purpose of non-sedated research MRI scans. These kinds of scans are very challenging for babies older than four weeks and I was able to apply them with success.
